To write a name in fancy letters, enter the original spelling in the generator, compare results and copy a style that is still easy to recognize. After pasting, check the complete name in the app where you want to use it.

Start with the fancy letters copy-and-paste tool. You can experiment without changing a profile by pasting the result into a note first.

Display names and usernames are different

A profile’s display name may accept characters that an @username does not. The rules depend on the service. If a field rejects the result, use ordinary letters or check that app’s guidance.

No style is guaranteed to look identical on every device. A result that looks good in the generator may display differently, mix styled and ordinary letters or show empty boxes in its destination.

Compare three versions

  1. Write the name in ordinary text and keep a copy.
  2. Generate two or three styles without adding too many symbols.
  3. Paste the versions into a note on separate lines.
  4. Read them on a small screen without zooming.
  5. Choose the version that takes the least effort to recognize.

You can style just one word. In “Ana — photography”, keeping “photography” in ordinary text helps explain the profile even if the name has a decorative detail.

Check accents and similar-looking characters

Test the actual name, including accents: “Zoë”, “José” or “André”. Also check whether I, l and the number 1 are distinguishable. The tool uses Unicode characters; it does not install a font on your phone.

If an accent moves out of place, preserve the correct spelling with a simpler style. Keeping the effect is not worth losing part of someone’s name.

Make searching and contacting easier

Decorative characters can make typing, searching, selection and assistive reading harder. Keep an ordinary spelling in the description when people need to find you. Contact details and instructions should remain in plain text.

Avoid copying another account’s identity or appearance. Your profile should help people identify who is speaking, without relying on nearly invisible differences between symbols.

Before saving

Check spaces, accents and the final display. Keep the original version so you can switch back. To decorate a short description, see the guide to fancy letters for a bio.

Technical reference: Unicode — symbols and alphanumeric characters. Usage suggestions are editorial; these characters do not replace accessible text formatting.
